Doing a photo shoot was something that never really entered my mind. First of all, in no way did I ever want to be in front of a camera or embrace my super awesome modelling skills. It was quite honestly one thing that never made it to my bucket list of things to conquer in my life time...But it does now! And I am happy to report that it has been ticked off, as something I achieved and I am beyond proud that I did it.
This day, as my amazing friend and super talented photographer Gemma, at Captured by Gem walked around the park, coffee in hand I turned up not feeling all that confident or beautiful. Yes, I admit my nerves got the best of me, and before the camera even started clicking, I started to think about all the imperfections that would show up and how I would feel having to look at myself!
You see, self doubt will often creep back in, try to make you hide yourself away and once again make you feel as if you're not good enough. These days, I am very quick to shut that voice up! So pulling on my big girl panties, I raised my chin and stood in front of that flashing camera. And I'm thankful that I did.
Not only do I want to encourage all of you amazing readers who follow along, and let you know that YOU too can do this, I want to set the example and live what I write. Some times, steps like stepping in front of the camera can be daunting, but I really encourage you to try it. Better yet, start thinking about what are some of the things you are holding back from doing? Is it wearing that bathing suit? Going on a holiday? Dating? And how are YOU going to change that?
I also want you to think about this... are you always the person behind the camera taking the photos? Or thanks to phones only ever taking a face shot to put on facebook? I want to say this... You need to be in the picture! Be present and accounted for! Because you are worth it, you are beautiful...Why? Because there is only one you, and you deserve to be captured and treasured.
And don't forget to spread the love. I am pretty sure we all have friends or family members who need the reminder that they deserve to shine and embrace how truly magnificent they are. Please feel free to share this post with them, let them come on this journey with us. I'm just an ordinary plus size girl, doing life, and living it uniquely my way! I hope you want to live it that way too and learn to love yourself. So follow along, invite others, share and help me to reach more women who need the reminder.
Also...just before I sign off. I want to thank all of you lovely people who have emailed me and totally made my day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for opening up about your struggles and talking with me. I LOVE hearing from you all. It means more than you know to realise I have touched your lives even in a small way, and please know that you have touched mine. The support you have shown for this blog, and my books is...well, I have no words to truly express.
Bless you all!
Love Sarah Gai, xx
