WHY I STARTED WRITING - QUESTION TIME

Hey Readers! It's been a long while since I've written a behind the scenes post or a question time one, but this week I got the sweetest email from a budding writer named Faith. So today I'm going to answer her question which was.

"What made you want to write not just curvy romance fiction, but all kinds of fiction? What spurred you to become an author?" - Faith.

I wanted to write this post & be quick about it. Tell Faith the basic and obvious answer, that I had always loved writing, but in truth it was so much more than that.

Yes, the truth is that I love writing more than anything else in the world, and it's why I chose to make it a full-time career, but growing up wasn't easy for me. You see, I moved around a lot, like every few years. My father was in the airforce and by the time I was 15, I had been to over thirteen schools. It wasn't easy always being the new girl, and I have to say that growing up and making new friends could be downright hard! And sometimes, the people I thought were my friends weren't really all that nice unless you were playing by their rules. But the friends I did keep, no matter where I moved, well when I did decide to write for a living, they were my biggest cheerleaders.

No matter where I moved, the one thing I had was journals. The pages, filled with stories of how I wanted life to be. because within those stories the underdog always got the victory. I could sit down and write entire fictional towns with good guys & bad guys. But no matter what happened, there would always be a happily ever after.

Growing up, I always struggled with my weight. It wasn't easy trying to stay slim. And I'm not going to lie and say it was just because I had polycystic ovarian syndrome. I also loved to comfort eat. And as I grew older, and met the love of my life who to me is seriously still the hottest guy I've ever met! I began to see a lack of curvy/plus size fiction. And so... that is how I came to write in this super amazing genre. It wasn''t about the weight, it was about the girl, that no matter how the world viewed her, to someone she was sexy, sweet and worthy of true love. Yep, just like the man I married saw me with all my curves, lumps, bumps, stretch marks and loved me for them, not in-spite of them.

I believe that we are all beautiful despite societies standards, and that we deserve to read characters that portray real, every day women, like you, like me! And let me say this now, not all of my characters are curvy or plus size, some are the complete opposite, but all of them are totally unique to themselves.

So... that was a super long explanation into why I chose to become a writer, but one thing I want my readers to know is that I'm not afraid to be open. This path I have chosen isn't just about reading one of my books. I want to encourage, I want to share pieces of my imperfect life, to journey along with you, get to know my fans, and hopefully inspire you to love the skin you're in with all your heart!

THAT is why I became a writer... Love Sarah Gai
